Om is reincarnated as the wealthy, handsome superstar Om Kapoor (also Shahrukh Khan). He has no memory of his past life until a chance encounter triggers everything. With the help of a ghost (yes, a hilarious cameo by Shreyas Talpade) and his mother (Kirron Kher), Om sets out to expose Mukesh Mehra. He even tricks a look-alike (also Deepika Padukone) named Sandy into helping him recreate a film to trap the murderer.

When a fire breaks out on set, Om saves Shantipriya, leading to a friendship. However, Shantipriya is secretly married to the arrogant, jealous producer Mukesh Mehra (Arjun Rampal). When Shantipriya threatens to expose Mukesh’s crimes, he burns her alive on set and frames it as an accident.
