Technically based on Verne’s The Mysterious Island (which also references the center of the earth), this sequel replaces Brendan Fraser with The Rock. It’s bigger, louder, and more absurd—featuring giant bees, tiny elephants, and a gold-plated city. While not as faithful, it’s pure escapism.
This modern reboot takes huge liberties with the source material. Instead of 19th-century academics, Trevor Anderson (Fraser) is a volcanologist searching for his missing brother. The plot is faster, the creatures are CGI (including a memorable chase with a carnivorous fish and a gaggle of angry dinosaur birds), and the tone is family-friendly action-comedy.
