Television news sanitized the event; newspapers used pixelated photos. The internet, however, promised the unedited version.
After nearly a decade of legal battles, four people were convicted in 2021: the club owners (Elissandro Spohr and Mauro Hoffmann) and the band members (Marcelo de Jesus and Luciano Bonilha). images for the searcher are the mugshots of these men or the courtroom sketches where victims’ families wept.
The next time you enter a nightclub, look up. Do you see black foam on the walls? Do you see a fire extinguisher? Is the emergency exit chained shut? The strongest image in your mind should be the Kiss nightclub floor plan. Use it to navigate to the exit immediately.
