Most importantly, they proved that there is an audience for every niche. If you have a fantasy, no matter how strange, an ASSTR author had already written a 150-page serial about it, posted it for free, and moved on to the next thing. As the original hardware fails and the last backups corrode, we are losing a library of outsider literature. The ASSTR authors have scattered to the winds.
